Post Procedure Support

At Dr. Vallecillos’ office, we understand that surgery is only one step in your journey to a new you. Before undergoing your procedure, Dr. Vallecillos and his staff will provide you with a comprehensive plan for your post-operative care and address any questions or concerns you may have. Our goal is to ensure that your recovery is as comfortable as possible.

Before your surgery date, Dr. Vallecillos will prescribe pain medication to be taken as needed post-operatively. Pain tolerance can vary widely amongst patients, and we carefully tailor your prescription to suit your needs and ensure your comfort. Discomfort during recovery will depend on how invasive and extensive your surgery was; facial surgeries tend to be less invasive and therefore, have shorter recovery times and less pain, swelling, and bruising than body surgery, such as liposuction, breast augmentation, or a lift.

Since most surgeries require either sedation or general anesthesia, we encourage our patients to arrange for transportation to and from our facilities on the day of their procedure. The night of the surgery is usually the most uncomfortable. To help ensure a positive start to your recovery, we recommend that our patients either use an aftercare facility or have a family member, friend, or caregiver stay with them overnight. Patients are encouraged to rest and take pain medication as needed to manage discomfort.

The day after their procedure, patients are required to return to the office for their first post-operative appointment with Dr. Vallecillos. Stitches and bandages are usually removed within the first two weeks after surgery. Dr. Vallecillos will continue to monitor your recovery with follow-up appointments, and will be able to recommend a timetable for resuming activities such as exercise. During the initial recovery period, rest and recuperation is imperative.

Full recovery time varies, but residual swelling and settling can persist for several months. It is important to understand that your body will change significantly during the post-operative period, and final results may take up to six months to appear. Dr. Vallecillos will be available to you throughout this time for assurance and support, to ensure that your health is maintained and your goals are met.
